Clothes in layers -
It's always colder, hotter, or wetter than you think when you start out.
Although you will always be warm and comfortable in the cabins, we suggest
that you bring a jacket for outside viewing.
Bring foul weather
gear or a rain jacket to keep off wind and spray - even on sunny days.
For rainy days, bring waterproof clothes. Boating and camping stores
sell cheap waterproof suits. You don't need fancy foul weather gear,
although higher quality gear will last longer. Tip: Dry and warm really beats
wet and cold every time!
Good walking shoes are also recommended as there are some incredible
hiking opportunities in both Ucluelet and Bamfield.
-
Sunglasses, sun lotion, and hat, even if
you don't think it's very sunny. Sunlight reflected off of the
water will burn you, too.
- Water/other drinkable fluids - There are beverages
available on the boat as well as at stores in Bamfield and Ucluelet...
but make sure you have at least something before you trek out to Brady's...
there's no stores out there! Tip:
Fill plastic bottles mostly full and freeze before the trip, leaving
expansion room.
- Lunch - Again, snacks are
available onboard as well as at stores in Bamfield and Ucluelet...
in fact, both towns have some great little cafes to stop and have
a meal overlooking the water! But make sure
you have at least something before you trek out to Brady's... there's
no stores out there! If going to Bamfield for the day, we
recommend that you pack a lunch or a picnic to bring to the
beach.
- Super Essential: Your camera is a necessity...
how silly will you feel when an Orca crests and
you can't capture the shot? Binoculars can add to your fun.
